Your Daily Bread
It’s amazing how out of necessity businesses are created. Take for example Pepperidge Farm, popular now by its cheesy goldfish crackers, bread and yummy cookies. The founder, Margaret Rudkin was trying to prove doctors wrong in baking bread that her son could eat. He suffered from severe allergies and asthma. The bread was not only good, but was a hit. That was in the 1940’s. A lot has happened since then when in 2001 the company topped one billion dollars in sales. To keep the production line running, Jeffrey Walls recently needed a motor at one of their production facilities in Lakeland, Florida. That’s where they make their bread in a 320,000 square foot plant. In one year they make approximately 31 million loaves of bread. To help them out, Piedmont Delivery Service loaded the motor and was on our way to Lakeland, Florida arriving at 4:46am Saturday morning. A slice of life in our continuing effort to keep our customers in business when every second counts. We call it The Piedmont Difference!
